Hybrid Chemistry Cluster in Sarnia-Lambton

Sustainable Chemistry Alliance Investment in Azule Inc.
Gets Further Support from $1.6 Million SDTC Funding

SARNIA, ON – Azule Fuel Inc, which has received previous funding support from the Sustainable Chemistry Alliance (SCA), will receive an additional $1.6-million in federal funding to continue its groundbreaking work on biodiesel. The funding will be provided through Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC).

"This substantial investment by the SDTC is further evidence that Sarnia is becoming a hybrid chemistry cluster," says Dr. Murray McLaughlin, President and CEO of the SCA. "We share the commitment of the SDTC in working with companies to help them develop early stage technologies that have the potential to move forward to the commercialization stage."

Dr. McLaughlin says SCA made an earlier investment in Azule as a new channel of diesel catalyst technology to improve the production of biodiesel. "The SDTC operates as an arm's length investor for the federal government and exercises due diligence in reviewing technology that has commercial potential."

The SDTC investment in Azule is part of an announcement of $53 million in federal funding to help 17 new clean technology projects from across the country reach commercialization. "These projects demonstrate our leadership in driving technology innovation to help create a vibrant clean energy industry in Canada," said Joe Oliver, Minister of Natural Resources, in making the announcement.

SDTC President and CEO Vicky Sharpe said the impact of innovation comes through commercialization. "Only when R&D reaches the market does it begin delivering results."
